Durant... City of Magnolias
Durant is just 12 miles east of Lake Texoma State Park at the crossroads of US75 and US70. It’s an easy drive from the lake for shopping, antiquing, or indoor entertainment.
The annual Magnolia Festival June 4–6 offers something for everyone from arts, crafts and antiques show and sale to music and entertainment, a food court and a carriage tour of historic homes. The Children’s Village includes rides, art, games, clowns and a petting zoo just for the little ones.
Fort Washita, 14 miles northwest of Durant, steps back in time as history comes to life during the annual Spring Rendezvous and Reenactment the first weekend in April.
The Oklahoma Shakespearean Festival on the campus of Southeastern Oklahoma State University brings fine theater in June and July, including children’s theater, dinner theater and a Broadway musical.
Displays of Native American and frontier lifestyles or contemporary art will be found at Three Valley Museum, Fairchild’s Gallery and Museum, Indian Territory Museum and Southeastern Oklahoma State University Art Gallery.
The Choctaw Inter-Tribal PowWow features authentic dances, costumes and tribal customs the third Saturday in April. The Inter-Tribal Council also hosts the Native American Arts and Crafts Show in November each year.
Choctaw Indian High Stakes Bingo features adult fun weekly with a variety of special events in a Las Vegas-style atmosphere.
Durant is the home of Southeastern Oklahoma State University, the Choctaw Nation Headquarters, Kiamichi Area Vo-Tech/Bryan County Campus and the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma.
