Denison... a blending of history and art
While in the Lake Texoma area, visitors should allow time for an excursion to Denison, Texas to enjoy its rich heritage and cultural opportunities. Only four miles from the shores of Lake Texoma, the historic downtown arts district is home to eight art galleries, three international artists and over 82,000 square feet of antique shops, tea rooms and boutiques for everyone’s enjoyment.
Attractions include the Dwight D. Eisenhower Birthplace & Museum, the Red River Railroad Museum, Grayson County Frontier Village and the T.V. Munson Viticulture Center. History buffs can enjoy a walking tour of historic buildings or the driving tour of historic sites. Nearby is the Harber Wildlife Museum and Hagerman Wildlife Refuge.
Known as an “event community” some of the highlights include the Arts & Wine Renaissance in March, the Texoma Lakefest Regatta in April, the Memorial Day Parade in May, the July 4th Fireworks Show Extravaganza, the U.S. National Aerobatic Competition in September, the Art Tour in November and the Holiday Tour of Homes and spectacular Christmas Parade in December.
After a fun day at the lake or shopping and visiting the sites of Denison, travelers can enjoy a relaxing night at one of Denison’s motels or bed & breakfast inns. Denison has an abundance of restaurants to select from to satisfy the entire family’s appetite.
